		<description>Thanks for the scripture reference Matt! I think you&#039;re right about the cause/effect relationship being functional. Interestingly, I&#039;ve heard more than one person with a mental health issue blame it on some past mistake, usually drugs. I think that&#039;s because people don&#039;t like to think there is something wrong with their brain, because that might mean there is something wrong with them. Just a guess though...</description>

		<description>Good and important post. It reminds me of what I just read the other day in John 9:

His disciples asked Him, &quot;Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?&quot; 3. &quot;Neither this man nor his parents sinned,&quot; said Jesus, &quot;but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. 4. As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me...&lt;/blockquote&gt;

I think the cause/effect problem exists partially because it sometimes seems to work (he smoked and now he&#039;s got lung cancer; or, he dropped acid for years and now he&#039;s fried), and partially because that&#039;s what people have intuitively surmised since pre-scientific times as shown in the scripture above. 

Also, I&#039;m excited to hear about the biopsychosocial-spiritual perspective.</description>
